hurling insults at him he criticized Buddha ridiculed his teachings and even accused him of being a fraud despite the man’s harsh words budo remained calm and composed he listened patiently without reacting surprised by Buddha’s peaceful demeanor the man grew even more agitated he intensified his insults hoping to provoke a reaction but no matter how hard he tried Buddha remained unperturbed like a rock in the face of a storm finally exhausted and defeated the man asked Buddha why he hadn’t responded to his insults Buddha replied with a question of his own if someone offers you a gift but you refuse to accept it to whom does the gift belong the man was taken aback by Buddha’s response he realized that by not reacting to his insults Buddha had refused to accept the negativity he was offering this story teaches us a valuable lesson about controlling our emotions like Buddha we have the power to choose how we respond to the challenges and negativity that come our way so how can we apply this wisdom to our own lives here are a few suggestions number one practice mindfulness it’s a term we hear often but what does it really mean at its core mindfulness is about being fully
