eat it what he does with it instead will blow your mind he breaks the piece of bread into smaller bits with his beak and then he throws them into the pond he could eat the bread at any moment parents like bread like any other bird but he’s learned that the bread hides a much bigger value he uses it as bait to fish yeah you heard that right he throws the crumbs into the water and waits until a yummy looking fish comes along to take a bite and voila frank the fisher bird has a delicious meal to enjoy on his own number 17. dog surfing competition in california we’ve all heard of surfing competitions garrett mcnamara and rodrigo coxa are two of the names that first come to mind when you think about surfing but i bet you haven’t heard of a very cute and special surfing competition where the competitors are actually dogs yeah that exists and it’s the most adorable thing you’ll see in a while the tournament is held along the imperial beach and huntington beach shorelines in california every year dogs from all over the united states gather there to show off their impressive surfing skills they jump on their tiny boards paddle out and catch waves and everything it’s remarkable there are three categories small dogs medium dogs and large dogs they all have 10 minutes and they have to catch at least two waves one of the main things that the judges focus on is their confidence while riding a wave this is a competition for brave dogs only there’s also a costume contest where the doggies pose on their surfboards for a photo shoot all the money collected during this fantastic event goes to the san diego humane society which fights against cruelty to animals so these adorable pooches are actually not just famous athletes but heroes in their communities as well number 16 mother tigress adopts piglets in a taiwanese zoo there was a very depressed mother tigress because her cubs had recently died she was desperate and lonely and the zoo workers couldn’t take seeing her so sad anymore but by the magic of fate in another section of the same zoo a small litter of baby piglets had just recently lost their mom it was a match of unfortunate circumstances made in heaven the zoo workers weren’t very sure if the experiment would work at first i mean usually these two species aren’t very amiable in nature one is the clear predator of the other but to everyone’s surprise it worked to perfection maybe due to the fact that the tigris was in such a blue state of mind while she was mourning her cubs or maybe because she’s never really hungry as she lives in a zoo the fact of the matter is she completely adopted the piglets and they all live happily together they even dressed the baby pigs in tiger printed onesies just to make the entire thing even cuter that’s even possible some people say it was actually a publicity stunt and the whole thing was a setup they even go so far as to say that the zoo has been accused in the past of putting their animals through unnecessary stress just to gain publicity but they all look like they’re having a good time don’t you think number 15. a boxer crab that wears a sea anemone as boxing gloves many animals use other species for their own benefit without going much further than us humans we use horses bulls dogs and many other animals to help us in our jobs well it turns out that a little cute crab called the libya tessalata does something very similar with a little twist libya tessalata is a species of small crab in the family xanthoday also known as the boxer crab they are only found in the shallow parts of the tropical indo-pacific ocean where the anemone also lives can you guess where i’m going with this boxer crabs got their name because of the fact that they carry little anemones in their claws for protection more than boxers they kind of look like cheerleaders swinging around their fluffy pom-poms anemones are equipped with tiny poisonous harpoons that can scare any predator away that wants to snack on the boxer crab anemones are so sought after by the crabs that they actually physically fight for them this arrangement also benefits the anemone who gets lots of food scraps from the crab not only that but if our little boxer loses one of his boxing gloves he simply tears the other one in two eventually both halves of the anemone regenerate into their original size it is one of the few cases in the animal kingdom where one species can sexually stimulate the other number 14. the cat who adopted baby ducklings there’s a lovely couple called ronin and emma lally that live in ireland just outside of clara that have decided to run a farm alongside their day jobs they have a wide collection of animals there but the only thing that was missing was a couple of ducks so they ordered some fertilized eggs over the internet the day the eggs hatched ronin went to the barn to check on the ducklings but couldn’t find them anywhere he started to get nervous and that’s when he saw a stray cat jumping off a pigeon hole in one of sheds them down from a pigeon hole of that the within the shed over there he thought that that was it the cat had surely eaten the ducklings as any cat would at that point the baby ducks had been missing for about six hours and the lally’s were losing hope but they were about to get the surprise of their lives after a long search around the farm they finally found them but the kitty had gotten there first as she already had one of the ducklings in her mouth but they also noticed that she wasn’t aggressively holding onto the baby duck but rather just holding it that’s when they saw all the other siblings just following the kitty and after she laid on her side they all started snuggling together number 13 dog sings to stop baby from crying dogs are man’s best friends there’s no doubt about that but did you know that they can also be a baby’s best friend according to professor ted ruffman of the university of otago the sound of a baby or toddler crying causes a spike in stress hormones for any dog that hears it this means that dogs feel subconsciously upset in response to the human baby’s distress how’s that for loyalty they actually conducted an experiment to prove this they exposed 74 humans and 75 dogs to the sounds of a baby crying a baby babbling and a recording of a white noise after hearing each noise the subjects had their saliva examined for cortisol levels and it showed that the sound of a baby crying actually causes dogs cortisol levels to rise and just like humans try to console a baby when it’s crying the same thing goes for dogs in this video you can see a siberian husky literally singing to a baby and eventually the baby calms down as the baby turns into a toddler it almost sounds like they’re having a conversation in the baby’s defense not that they need it everyone would feel protected and loved if a huge and fluffy husky was singing to him number 12 flying silver car deep in the state of illinois in the small town of bath there’s an annual redneck fishing tournament redneck fishing is basically the art of catching flying asian silver carps on the illinois or ever the silver carp was first introduced to the united states in the 1970s as a way of controlling the algae population in the catfish farms in the south but as you might already know these things never end well in the 80s flood waters allowed the silver carp to escape and today the mississippi river basin has the densest population of silver carp in the nation like any invasive species the asian carp is extremely disruptive to the natural food chain of the river system they push back the native fish and as you can see they are very dangerous to boaters when they jump out of the water they can easily break someone’s jaw and that actually happens quite often and their population is rapidly increasing one single female silver carp can lay two million eggs in one year after the adults become a certain size there isn’t a natural predator big enough to hunt them down so they live without any obstacle whatsoever and that’s why the tournament was the perfect solution for a very real problem number 11 elephants playing football this peculiar football tournament or soccer if you prefer takes place in the chitfan region in nepal they hold it annually and people travel from far and wide to attend the event it was designed to raise awareness for wildlife conservation and believe it or not there’s some real skill on display some elephants seem to really have a talent for the sport as they do a maradona run from one striker who managed to score a goal partially because of the poor defending of the net the games are played on a smaller field than a regular soccer match with an inflatable ball that is of course quite larger than the standard otherwise the elephants wouldn’t be able to properly control the ball contrary to popular belief elephants are not easily trainable so the fact that they can channel their inno leo messi and play beautifully is actually extremely impressive they even have personal trainers that guide them from the field when they are preparing for the tournament since this practice went viral more and more elephant sanctuaries are jumping on the wagon and teaching the willing elephants how to play the sport who knows maybe in the future they’ll become superstars just like modern day football players number 10 bowerbird builds amazing nest meet nature’s best little architect the great bauer bird builds its nest or bower stick by stick in an attempt to attract a mate this perfectly proportioned structure has nothing to be jealous of of any kind of human construction their work is intrinsic and thorough made by a very capable and perfectionist beak the nest consists of a central tunnel or avenue that is then decorated by scattering the floor with different kinds of objects the male bower birds have to go through so much trouble all because the females are quite demanding and strict they really care about high standard living and they know what they want as they say happy life happy wife during the season the female scours several construction sites to see which one tickles her fancy the process can only begin after she decides on one that’s why there’s so much pressure on the males as it takes many years of training before they can master the art of bower making this is why the strongest competition are actually the older bauer birds that have much more experience in the field but the females will examine not only the impressive structure but also how it is decorated that’s why everything matters and the males have to find the most colorful interesting and sparkly objects to brighten their bowers with number nine performing parrots you can’t be a pirate that’s worthy of the title if you don’t have a sassy parrot as a sidekick and as it turns out parrots are so intelligent that they are quite easy to train always with tons of patience and love of course but modern-day pirates the ones that work in the circus or at an amusement park have perfected the art of teaching parrots some incredibly impressive tricks did you ever think that the day would come that you would see a parrot riding a bicycle well that day has come and they’re getting better and better at it now not only can the parrots ride on bikes on a wood plank no pun intended but they could also do so on a wire i mean i don’t know any human that can do that it’s amazing [Music] they do have an advantage though if they fall from the wire they can simply fly away and no harm done if a person falls from a high wire well then you can call an ambulance right away but even though they have wings it’s still incredible how they can use their beak as extremities in this case hands and how coordinated they are number eight monkeys stealing people’s belongings monkeys can be very clever and cheeky sometimes and the ones living at the uluwatu temple in bali are no exception meet the nefarious long-tailed macaques they actually form a monkey gang that’s involved in criminal activities they steal tourists belongings and considering that there are over 300 macaques in the temple going to pay your tribute to the deities can be quite a dangerous business there are many people that leave temple offerings and they can even get food scraps from tourists but they need much much more food than that and because they are such intelligent little devils they have come up with the perfect plan to get people to feed them they literally hold their possessions for ransom these monkeys have turned to a life of crime they will aggressively take away your sunglasses your jewelry your scarf even the shoes off your feet they never hurt their marks of course they just scare the bejesus out of them but of course monkeys are not known to eat sunglasses or flip-flops they’ll sit there staring at you with the valuables in their hand until you offer them a yummy snack they always let go of your possessions after that it was all about food from the start number seven dolphin rescues phone that was dropped in the sea dolphins are absolutely amazing animals they are believed to be one of the smartest creatures on earth they have complex social bonds within their pots and they’re very playful and sweet it’s always awesome when they jump alongside a boat but did you know that they can also find your phone if you accidentally drop it in the water i mean the phone has a very high chance of being completely ruined but they have no way of knowing that it’s nothing but good intentions on their part and that is exactly what happened to a girl when she went on a boat trip to go see the dolphins her name is teressa c and she was on vacation at the blue lagoon island the little marine hero that saved the day is named kasik don’t bring your phone to a dolphin encounter after she dropped her phone in the water kasich disappeared to the bottom of the ocean and immediately brought the phone back in its mouth she’s friend was able to record the entire event on her own phone one that didn’t fall into the water but after the whole thing went down she realized the perils of holding her phone on a boat and she put it back in her pocket where it would be safe unfortunately sea’s phone was completely ruined i mean the electronic devices in water aren’t really the best of friends number six chimpanzee smoking this one takes place at the central zoo in pyongyang the capital city of north korea and how sensible can the news be from such a place not much actually meet azalea or delay in korean a 19 year old female chimpanzee that is a chain smoker the zoo underwent some major renovations in 2016 and when they opened up again they needed a brand new attraction to attract the public and they thought a smoking ape would do the trick zoo workers insist that she doesn’t actually inhale the smoke but she still goes through a pack a day she’ll usually ask for a lighter from one of the trainers who throws it at her for her to catch it she then lights her cigarettes on her own if a lighter is not available she can even light up from a lit cigarette if someone throws water away although this would not only be considered outrageous but also animal cruelty in western countries in north korea it seems that the public finds it quite delightful azalea has also been trained to touch her own nose on command thou thank you to the visitors and to do a simple dance to entertain them number five elephant rescuing a drowning man look at this juvenile elephant trying to save his human friend isn’t that adorable at the beginning of the video you can clearly see a man drowning and helplessly floating away on a river while he tries to gesture for help you can even hear him asking for help as well it’s very clear that he’s in distress and in the back there’s a herd of elephants that are evidently considering crossing that same river they’re having a little discussion about it if you will but elephants are creatures that are no stranger to empathy and when they sense that someone’s in trouble especially one of their calves they will not hesitate one moment and they will jump into action without skipping a beat so when this juvenile little hero sees an opportunity to help he simply sprints over towards the man splashing its way across the fast moving waters this river seems to be quite deep so our heroes barely above the water himself but that’s not gonna stop him he crosses the whole river and catches the man toward the edge of the riverbank at first he holds him with his trunk so that the man can catch his breath and then he shields his new friend with his own body holding him between his limbs number four 130 year old tortoise saves baby hippo hippos might seem harmless but they’re actually the second most lethal animal to human beings in the whole world don’t be fooled by their cute faces and chubby appearance they are deadly and fast and honestly quite vicious but nonetheless a very old tortoise took some pity on a baby hippo one day in 2004 there was a terrible tsunami wave that year in southeast asia and many people and animals were stranded and injured when wildlife rescuers found the little hippo he was in critical condition they called him owen and immediately took him to hal or park sanctuary in kenya that’s where he met mzee which means old man in swahili zee was a 130 year old aldabra giant tortoise at first owen ran towards nz and tried to cuddle the grumpy old tortoise but z didn’t seem too keen on the idea and even hissed at the baby hippo but like all babies owen was very persistent and also damn adorable finally gave up and took down his wallow grumpiness and he eventually accepted the newcomer soon everyone was amazed at how protected um zee had become towards his new little friend it was almost as if he had taken on the role of a parent out of nowhere number three smart octopus escapes out of a closed jar it isn’t news that octopuses are extremely intelligent they’re up there with dolphins great apes and even ravens which is amazing considering they have a lifespan of three to five years meaning they don’t really have that much time to learn new things during their lifetime but look at this amazing specimen and the amazing things it can do a group of scientists studying octopuses decided to test just how smart they really are and they came up with a really neat experiment this experiment was conducted underwater of course so the octopus doesn’t die the whole thing consists of trapping an octopus inside a jar and then closing the lid with the specimen inside what happens next will blow your mind the octopus is actually able to place the suction cups of his tentacles on the lid from the inside in a way that he can reverse open it but the thing is how did that octopus know that the lid of a jar needs to be turned in order to open it that’s impressive to say the least at the end when the lid gets loose the little creature simply pushes it up as if it knew all along what the whole thing was about number two two fish fight by spitting sand on each other we all have that one person in our life that we simply cannot stand no matter what just the thought of that person makes our blood boil well animals hold grudges too apparently and if you don’t believe me look at these two fish having a sand spitting face off the event took place at the seaside tropical fish store in california one is a blue spotted fish and the other is a diamondback watchman goby and they seem to have some beef to deal with evidently they are both respectively barricaded on two opposite corners of the same fish tank and neither is ready to back down their little trenches are actually just their burrows and they’re really not happy about the other fish’s choice of placement when one disappears out of the sand the other one spits sand into the other fish’s burrow and vice versa they’re basically trying to fill with sand the other hole without realizing that they’re probably spitting the same amount of sand in and out each time this goes on for a while the funny part about this is that these two aren’t even from the same species so it’s not like they’re competing for a female or anything like that it’s just pure hatred number one coco the amazing talking gorilla coco was an amazing female gorilla that had the incredible ability to do over 1 000 sign language signs and understand more than 2 000 words of spoken english she became quite famous during her lifetime but the first time she was ever featured on national geographic magazine was in october 1978 with a photograph that she took of herself in a mirror making it the first animal selfie ever not only could she pretty much communicate and understand english and was fluent in american sign language she could also recognize her own emotions and talk about them nice you there when she was sad she knew what exactly made her sad and when she was happy the same thing this is amazing for an animal even if that animal’s a great ape which are basically our long-lost cousins she gave us a deep inside look into the great apes reasoning capacities now animals feel such things as love grief or attachment she had a pet cat that she loved with all her heart and played with all day long they even slept together all curled up in a tender cuddle and she also had a favorite movie star robin williams long before she died at 46 years old in 2018 he paid her a visit where they apparently had a very long conversation when he died in 2014 she was told and made the sign for cry she apparently reacted very somberly to the news as you
